Antonietta Froio, 90, of Worcester, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Born and raised in Montauro, Province of Catanzaro, Italy, Antonietta was the youngest child of Antonio Pisano and Caterina (Trapasso) LaGrottoria. In 1959, she immigrated to the United States. On November 1, 1960, in Montauro, Antonietta married the love of her life, Joseph P. Froio, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years until his passing in 2018. Together, they built a beautiful life in Worcester, settling there on April 4, 1961-a day they often fondly recalled as "One of the best days of our lives".
Antonietta dedicated many years of service as a housekeeper at UMass Memorial Hospital's Maternity Center. Her greatest joy came from being a devoted wife, homemaker and raising her four children, and her relationship with her beloved seven grandchildren. She poured her heart into caring for her family every day, whether tending to her garden, homemaking, preparing delicious traditional Italian meals and desserts, or simply surrounding herself with the warmth of her family and loved ones. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the comforting aromas of her cooking, especially on holidays which she loved.
Antonietta leaves behind a legacy of true faith, love and devotion to her cherished family. She is survived by her four beloved children, whom she was immensely proud of: Frank P. Froio and his wife Suzanne, Anthony A. Froio, Esq. and his wife Stephanie; Caterina "Cathy" Zecco and her husband James, all of Shrewsbury; and Josephine "Pina" Mara and her husband Joseph of Millbury. She was the adored "Nanna" to seven grandchildren: Marisa, Emilia, Rachel, Ariana, Anthony, Christopher, and Nicholas, and a doting great-grandmother to Dominic. Antonietta is also survived by her sister, Teresa Froio of Worcester, along with so many cherished extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Antonietta's family at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Loreto Parish, 37 Massasoit Road, Worcester, on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am, celebrated by Monsignor Stephen Pedone. Entombment in Notre Dame Mausoleum will follow.
Donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Loreto Parish, 37 Massasoit Road, Worcester, MA 01604.
