Antoinette Ruth (Kacevich) Aiksnoras, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the age of 94. Ruth was born on March 31, 1930, to Adam and Alexandria (Krylowich) Kacevich. After a brief illness, Ruth has joined her husband, the love of her life, Daniel Algird Aiksnoras who predeceased her in January of 2021.
Ruth is survived by daughters, Joanne R. Ryngiewicz and her husband, David of AZ, Christine T. Callahan and her husband, Paul of Paxton; sons Daniel A. Aiksnoras and his partner, Philip Paul of New York City, and Michael A. Aiksnoras and his wife, Michele of Worcester. Ruth will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren: David Dziembowski, Debra McKee, Jessica Lane, James Aiksnoras and Daniel Callahan. Ruth will also be remembered by her eight great grandchildren as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by two sisters and four brothers.
Like many of the women of Ruth's generation, home and family formed the main focus of her life. She made homes for her family on Vernon Hill in Worcester, in Westfield and in Oxford, Massachusetts. Once her children were grown and on their own, Dan and Ruth lived for a few years in Brewster on Cape Cod before returning to Central Massachusetts to be closer to their family.
Ruth enjoyed arts & crafts and was talented at working with ceramics and knitting. There are many family members snuggling under Afghans on cold New England nights thanks to Ruth's fondness for knitting. When she was younger and before her eyesight began to fail, there was always a book close by. Ruth enjoyed a good (trashy?) book. She also loved card parties with her brothers and sisters and their spouses. In her opinion, penny ante poker on a back porch in summertime was just a little piece of Paradise.
Other than being close to her family, Ruth's greatest joy came when she was traveling. She enjoyed trips to Bermuda and California, but she was just as delighted with road trips throughout New England and the Maritimes as long as she was spending time with her favorite partner in crime, Dan. Their two personalities were perfectly matched. More grasshoppers than ants, they both shared a love for independence and spontaneity. If they woke up on a warm summer day and had to choose between going to work or going to the beaches of Rhode Island it was goodbye machine shop and hello Sand Hill Cove. Luckily Dan was a talented tool and die maker, so they seldom had regrets for taking the time to be with each other.
In 2021, the day before Dan & Ruth were scheduled to receive the first doses of the new COVID 19 vaccine, they were both diagnosed with the virus. Ruth survived COVID but Dan did not. Without the love of her life by her side much of the joy went out of Ruth's world. After surviving a few recent hospitalizations, Ruth made it clear that she would rather move on to the next life than to continue living this one without her Dan. Ruth became ill on Mother's Day and after a few days she left us. Our sadness is tempered by the knowledge that Ruth is finally in the arms of the one she missed so much.
Services will be held at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A private burial will be conducted at St. John's Cemetery on Cambridge Street, Worcester. Anyone wishing to donate in Ruth's memory are invited to do so. The Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center Activity Fund, 76 N Main St. West Boylston, MA 01583 was a favorite of Ruth's, or any charity of your choice would be perfectly alright.
