HOLDEN – Mary Ann (Zolla) Formato, 90, formerly of Worcester and Holden, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Westborough after a brief illness.
Her husband of 55 years, Rolland P. Formato died in 2000. She leaves a son, Richard A. Formato and his wife Victoria (Nigro) of Brewster; a brother, Armand Zolla of Wilbraham; five grandchildren, Richard M. Formato and his wife Cheryl, David C. Formato and his wife Sonja, Kristin M. Cataldo and her husband John, James E. Formato and his wife Megan, and Gillian L. Fisher and her husband Ken; eight great- grandchildren, Christopher Cataldo, Emily Formato, Mia Formato, Victoria Cataldo, Alexa Formato, Haley Fisher, Kyle Formato and Madeleine Fisher. A daughter, Barbara A. (Formato) Fisher died in 2004. A brother, Vincent Zolla and two sisters, Jenny Marinello and Louise Cordella, also predeceased her. She was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Orazio and Nunzia Zolla and later lived 13 years in Holden before recently moving Westborough.
Mrs. Formato was a seamstress, homemaker, author of children's stories and poems, and graduated from the Institute of Children's Literature in 1979. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 11th, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Holden. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, 1326 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Venerini Academy, 27 Edward Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
