PAXTON – Ann F. (McCarthy) Cunningham, 86, of Pleasant Street, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester, after a brief illness.
She leaves her husband of 46 years, Thomas J. Cunningham and her daughter, Ellen M. McLean and her husband James of Paxton; grandsons, Andrew, Thomas and James McLean; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Michael H. and Ellen M. (Dolan) McCarthy and lived 46 years in Paxton. She was predeceased by two brothers, The Rev. Thomas J. McCarthy and Bernard T. McCarthy, and four sisters, Mary E. Derby, Katherine V. Melican, Helen McCarthy and Sister Mary James.
Ann graduated from Classical High School in 1941. She attended Boston University and graduated from Regis College in 1945 and Worcester State College in 1950. She taught for many years at Fanning Trade High School and Venerini Academy, both in Worcester. She was active in senior affairs and was a member of the Paxton Council on Aging, the Advisory Board of the Age Center of Worcester and a member of the Elder Affairs of Worcester. She was also a member of the Paxton Historical Commission and Paxton's Board of Registrars. She was a member of St. Columba Parish where she taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine for many years and served on its bereavement committee.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 27th, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 28th, in St. Columba Church, 10 Richards Avenue, Paxton. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery, 251 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann's memory may be made to the VNA Care Network, Rose Monahan Home, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
