Ann D. (Daniels) Troy

OAKHAM – Ann D. (Daniels) Troy, 88, of 84 Maple Street, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston from complications of Vascular Disease.

She leaves her husband, Francis A. Troy of Seattle, Washington; her daughter, Mary Troy Bunker of Concord; five sister-in-laws, Corolyn Daniels of Refugio, Texas, Abigail Hale of Barre, Margaret Demers of Worcester, Bette Spinney of Oakham, and Irma Hardy and her husband Josiah of North Brookfield; two brother-in-laws, Col. Maurice Smith of Northfield, Vermont, and Thomas Troy and his wife Liz of Bethesda, Maryland; many nephews and nieces; the Chanthanousone family, Vetkeo, Amy, Marcus, and Leo; the Laotian folks who called her “Grandma Ann” as well as many good friends. Her sister, Isabel Daniels Smith and her brother, Charles B. Daniels, predeceased her. She was born in Athol, the daughter of Ralph I. and Leone (Boyd) Daniels and lived many years in Oakham before moving in with her daughter in 2004. She graduated from Barre High School in 1936.

During World War II, Mrs. Troy served on the Ration Board in Oakham. Because she was employed by Oakham’s independent telephone company, Conant & Parker Telephone, prior to her marriage, she returned to work there in the 50’s to manage the transfer of its system to dial when the company purchased by New England telephone as a telephone operator in Worcester office until her retirement in 1980. After her retirement, she tutored in the Special Education program at Oakham Center School for several years while caring for her Mother, who died in 2000 at the age of 103. Her home was a popular stops for over 100 trick or treaters from the OCS each Halloween until 2003.

She was a member Christ Church Episcopal in South Barre. She taught Sunday school, sang soprano in the church choir, and was the treasurer of the Episcopal Women for 20 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and served on the Board of the Oakham Council on Aging, Ann will be remembered for her cheerful personality, sparkling wit, and constancy. She loved Oakham.

The funeral service for Ann will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 26, in the Christ Church Episcopal, 499 Vernon Avenue, South Barre. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Old Turnpike Road, Oakham. Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Oakham Senior Citizens Center, Town Hall, Oakham, MA 01068; Oakham Historical Society, 1221 Old Turnpike Road, P.O.
