Biography
WORCESTER - Andrew Lee Salitsky, 66, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 26th, surrounded by his precious family.
He was the loving son of Irving and Sarah (Cutler) Salitsky, devoted husband of Barbara (Blitz) Salitsky; beloved father to sons, Ira and his wife, Dinara, Eric and his wife, Tamara, and daughter, Amy; and brother to Rhonda (Salitsky) Bloomfield and Michael Salitsky.
Andy was the third generation of Salitsky Alloys, a 100 year old Worcester business started by his grandfather, Julius, and now continuing with the next generation. Andy was an excellent businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit, expanding the business through new products and technologies to transition it from a scrap yard to a full service recycling center.
Andy was quietly involved in the Worcester Jewish community. He served as president of the Beth Israel Brotherhood, the Vice President of Finance for Congregation Beth Israel, a board member of B'nai Brith Cemetery, a life member of the Jewish Healthcare Center and a lifetime associate of Hadassah and the Auxiliary of Jewish Healthcare. He was also known to be privately charitable on principle alone. For example, when visiting family members at the cemetery, Andy was so appalled that many graves lacked permanent markers that he took it upon himself to make sure they did and had headstones made for numerous people he did not know and had never met.
He and Barbara loved to travel, enjoying Hadassah missions to Israel and cruises to many countries. Family was everything to him. He was eager to show his devotion to those he cared about with constant advice and support. He even took friends of his children under his wing as if they were his own. Andy was forever the devoted son, father and husband who selflessly spent his life in the service of his loved ones and those close to him. His greatest desire was always to be the best father, husband, employer and friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, his tenacity, and his generosity. He was one of a kind and will never be forgotten.
