HOLDEN – Paula A. McGrady Mielinski, 67, of Cranbrook Drive, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009 in her home after an illness.

Paula was the daughter of Virginia Fox McGrady and James Patrick McGrady of Worcester; she is predeceased in death by her parents and her twin sister, Patricia Corwin and brother-in-law, Rollin Corwin of Houston. She is survived by her brother, James McGrady and sister-in-law, Carol McGrady of Columbia, SC. She leaves her son, Joseph Mielinski and his wife Susan and grandsons, Joseph and Michael of Charlton; her daughter, Kathleen LaChance and her husband Brian and grandchildren, Andrew and Jordon of Holden; and her daughter, Susan Sibley and her husband James and granddaughters, Katelyne and Sarah of Merimack, NH; and many nieces and nephews.

She grew up in Worcester and graduated from the Notre Dame Academy High School and the Salter School in 1964. She later earned her Bachelor's Degree from Worcester State College.

Paula met Joe Mielinski, the love of her life while in school and they were married on July 11, 1964. They moved to Niagara Falls, NY where their son Joseph was born, and after a brief stay in Texas moved to Troy, NY where their daughter Kathleen was born. After returning to Massachusetts in 1970 their second daughter Susan was born in Holden where they have lived for the past 39 years.

An eternal optimist, Paula was a wonderful mother and wife and always found the good in everyone she met. One of her greatest joys came from being a grandmother, better known as "Nana" to the kids.

Paula was active in the community serving on the Housing Authority, helping with the startup of the Holden Youth Soccer League, as a Soccer Coach, a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Brownies, and the first recycling program at the Holden landfill. She was a Social Worker before beginning her teaching career at Wachusett Regional High School where she taught for 19 years before retiring in 2003. She loved teaching and enjoyed meeting her former students and learning about their lives. In her younger days, Paula and her sister Pat were successful in doubles tennis in the New England Tennis Circuit. In recent years, she enjoyed reading, traveling, and her wildlife friends in the backyard.

The funeral for Paula will be held on Monday, August 17th with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Immediately following the service there will be a reception in the church hall. Burial will follow the reception in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours.
