STUART, FL/SHREWSBURY, MA - Alwyn E. Jensen, 85, of Stuart, FL, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester. Alwyn was born on November 10, 1928, in Worcester, to the late Orla B. and Flora C. (Eames) Jensen. He was raised in Paxton, lived 23 years in Shrewsbury before moving to Palm Beach Gardens, FL in 1983 and Stuart, FL in 1987.
Alwyn was a 1946 graduate of South High School, received Associate degrees from Worcester Junior College in both Industrial Engineering (1960) and Industrial Management (1965), and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Clark University (1972). He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
He started his working career as a draftsman at Heald Machine and George Meyer Companies in Worcester, and was a design engineer at Pratt & Whitney in West Palm Beach, Florida for 10 years, retiring in 1993. Alwyn was a member of the Paxton American Legion Post 306, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 of Worcester, the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland and the Amara Temple Shrine of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
His beloved wife of 58 years, Phyllis E. (Cofelice) Jensen, died on June 7, 2014. He is survived by his loving daughter, Judy E. Jensen of Sutton; a brother, Harold B. Jensen of Holden; and many nephews and nieces.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, at the First Congregational Church of Paxton, 1 Church Street. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton.
