RUTLAND – Althea (Pratt) McGann, 88, a 73-year resident of Ridge Road, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010 in UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester. She was born in New Sharon, Maine, daughter of the late George and Effie M. (Clements) Pratt, and was a graduate of Wilton Academy in Wilton, Maine.
Her husband of 45 years, John D. McGann, Sr., died in 1982. She is survived by three sons, Leo F. McGann and his wife Darlene of Jefferson, Patrick T. McGann and his wife Wendy of Newmarket, NH and James T. McGann of Rutland; two daughters, Janet A. McGann of Ashland and Alethea E. Quinn of Jefferson; a brother, Francis Pratt of Northborough; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Two sons, Michael F. McGann and John D. McGann, Jr., two brothers, James and Moses Pratt, a sister, Esther Murry, and a grandchild predeceased her.
Mrs. McGann worked as a Mental Health Worker II at Worcester State Hospital, retiring in 1987. Previously she worked at the Barre Wool Combing Company in South Barre for 10 years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the Rutland Grange, Daughter's of the American Revolution and was a brownie leader. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, reading, bareback horse riding on "Lady" and relaxing with her cat "Charlie Boy".
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 1st, in St. Patrick's Church, 290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Interment will follow in Rural Cemetery, 142 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sweet Pea Friends of Rutland Animals Inc., P.O.
