Alpheus S. Mascr

OAKHAM – Alpheus S. Mascroft, Jr., 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, after an illness. He was born in Memphis, TN, the son of Alpheus and Eva Mae (Hansbrough) Mascroft and had lived in Oakham for over 60 years.

His loving wife of 61 years, Shirley M. (Smith) Mascroft, passed away in 2011. He leaves his sons, Stanley W. Mascroft of Florida, Carl R. Mascroft of Florida, Dana A. Mascroft and his wife Pam of Gardner, Alpheus S. Mascroft III and his wife Paula of Florida and Larry S. Mascroft and his companion, Laurie of Oakham; his daughter, Joyce L. LaBier of Oakham; his brother, Ronald Mascroft of Mississippi; his sisters, Georgia Stewart and her husband, Robert and Wanda Luther, all of Tennessee; his brother-in-law, Robert Smith and his wife, Ingrid of Sterling; his sister-in-law, Fay Mascroft of Tennessee; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his son, Richard F. Mascroft, his brothers, William, Harold, and Richard Mascroft and his sisters, Alene Grasso and Annie Hiers.

Alpheus enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and served in Germany after World War II and later in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, he owned and operated Mascroft Trucking Company for many years. After retiring he continued working for several years at R.J. McDonald, Inc. in Barre. He received his private pilot’s license at the age of sixty and flew his own Cessna in and out of Barre-Hiller Airport. He was devoted to his large family and was known to bake cupcakes for the grandkids and sometime fly up to New Hampshire for ice cream. Alpheus enjoyed fishing of all types, visiting family and friends, and working on his Genealogy.

At his request, funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
