PAXTON - Allen Rubin, 89, of Paxton died on Tuesday, January 26th, in the Jewish Healthcare Center. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Sadick) Rubin; two daughters, Hope, wife of Jeff Haselton of Holden, and Amy Rubin and her partner, Chris Chaloff of Needham; four grandchildren, Olivia and Alan Sostek and Justin and Corey Newman; and five step-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Dr. Richard S. Rubin, Maurice L. Rubin, and Henry H. Rubin. He was born in Worcester and was a son of Harry and Lena (Aronovitz) Rubin and had lived in Paxton for the past 46 years. He graduated University of Massachusetts Amherst and from Boston University School of Law. He was a lawyer in general practice for over 60 years, specializing in Workmen’s Compensation Law. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the Philippines. He was awarded the Distinguished Commander Award by the Jewish War Veterans Post #32. He hosted many parties, trips, and outings for the Jewish War Veterans. He had been a member of the Board of Appeals in Paxton for many years. He was a 50 year board member of the Worcester County Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the Trial Lawyers Association, the Franklin Society of Boston University School of Law, and a panel member of the American Arbitration Association. He received the distinguished service award by the Worcester County Bar Association. He was a mentor to many lawyers. He was a member of the Beth Israel Synagogue, the Worcester Jewish Healthcare Center, he was a Past President of Bet Shalom, a member of the Worcester Art Museum, Friends of Worcester Institute Park, Worcester Historical Society, Preservation Worcester, Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra Association, B’Nai Brith International, and was a founder of the central Massachusetts Jewish Singles Group. He received the seventh annual from the Workman’s Compensation Committee and the first Annual Yarock award for himself and his wife, Ruth, on behalf of the Jewish War Veterans Post #32. Wherever there was a need, he offered to lead. He was intellectually curious and quick witted. He travelled extensively throughout the world. He was extremely devoted to his extended family, as an adored Uncle to his nieces and nephews, and grand nieces, and grand nephews. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere about anything. He was a member of many philanthropic cultural and academic associations. He found his Nirvana in Petersham on his 100 acre Xanadu, which he loved to share with everyone. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2:00 PM ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 28TH IN BETH ISRAEL SYNAGOUGE ON JAMESBURY DRIVE IN WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in B’Nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester. Memorial Observance will be held through the evening of Thursday, January 28th, the afternoon of Friday, January 29th until 4PM, Saturday, January 30th 5PM-8PM, and Sunday, January 31st, afternoon through evening.
