HOLDEN – Alice E. (Mclaughlin) Robichaud, age 98, passed away peacefully at home in Holden on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. She was the daughter of the late John W. McLaughlin, Sr. and Helen M. (Jones) Mclaughlin.
Born and raised in Holden, Alice graduated from Holden High School, class of 1942 and from Salter Secretarial School in Worcester. She began her career at Worcester Mutual and later worked at Alden Research Laboratory/WPI in Holden as an accountant/bursar. She took time off between companies to raise her family.
A lifelong Red Sox fan, she retired in 1988 and moved to Winter Haven, FL with her husband, insisting on season tickets, so she could closely follow the Red Sox at their spring training location.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading and word games, especially crossword puzzles and the Jumble (in ink). She taught her children to read at a young age, as well as the importance of grammar. Ever the accountant, she insisted on balancing her checkbook to the penny and knowing where every dollar was spent.
Alice was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and held fast to the McLaughlin name and family. Her multiple trips to Ireland only solidified her love of everything Irish.
She was genuinely caring, quietly thoughtful and always did the right thing, often putting everyone before herself.
She is survived by her four sons, Martin Robichaud and his wife, Mary of Melrose, Robert Robichaud and his wife Debra of Ivor, VA, Michael Robichaud and his partner, Ellen Whiting of Sturbridge, Patrick Robichaud and his husband, Brian of Yarmouth Port; a sister, Ruth Welsh of Holden, MA; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Alice is predeceased by her husband, Eugene Robichaud; a sister (and best friend), Jane Whittles and a brother, John Mclaughlin, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Alice’s life at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 5th, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dana Farber, a cause she herself supported.
