Alice E. (Hunt) Holland, 95, of Paxton and Worcester, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024. Born in Worcester, Alice was the daughter of John S. Hunt and Gertrude (Wright) Hunt. She was a 1945 graduate of Shrewsbury High School. In 1955, she moved to Worcester, and in 1970, to Paxton, where she lived until recently relocating back to Worcester.
Alice began her career providing secretarial services at State Mutual Insurance Company before meeting Orace T. "Bud" Holland in 1947. They married a year later and welcomed five children: Thomas, Marilyn, Karen, Carol, and Bonnie. Alice dedicated herself to raising her children and supporting her community, during her homemaking years. Later in life, she worked as a secretary at Hahnemann Hospital.
A talented seamstress and gifted artist, Alice was passionate about acrylic painting. Her paintings were exhibited in many Worcester County art shows, and she sold much of her artwork in surrounding towns. She sang with the Worcester Chorus for a number of years and participated in Messiah as well as several church choirs throughout the years. Alice was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Holden.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, Orace T. "Bud" Holland, and her siblings Ansel, Walter, Irma, Isabelle, Lyda, Julian, John, and Calvin.
Alice is survived by her children: Thomas Holland and his wife Claudia of Yarmouth Port, Marilyn Arsenault and her husband Raymond of Gardner, Karen Hanson and her partner, Bob Gee of Rutland, Carol Clark and her husband Timothy of Paxton, and Bonnie Amirault and her husband Raymond of Rochester, NH. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tim, Mark, Kate, Eric, Brooke, Lori, Colleen, Tucker, Megan, and Benjamin; and her great-grandchildren: Olivia, Connor, Riley, Indie, Grace, Emma, Jon, Dana, Tommy, and Charlotte.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Tatnuck Park at Worcester and Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their exemplary care of Alice over the last few years. Also, the family would like to express their gratitude to Brian and Judy Brosnihan and Rick Grensavitch for their loving care of Alice and Bud.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street, Holden. The burial will take place on a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alice's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Mustard Seed Catholic Worker, 93 Piedmont Street, Worcester, MA 01613.
