EXETER, RI/WORCESTER - Alice (Mekjian) Hendrickson, age 91, of Exeter, Rhode Island, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on October 18, 1931, in Marseille, France, Alice was the daughter of Rev. Agup and Arshaloos (Antanasian) Mekjian. In 1934, her family moved to the United States after Alice's father was called to serve as the pastor at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour in Worcester.
At the age of 17, Alice met and married Norman Hendrickson who died in 1998. She was raised in Worcester and later lived in Spencer and Shrewsbury with her husband before moving to Rhode Island where she lived for the last 3 years. She cared for everyone in her family and also worked at Hanson and Hanson in Worcester for many years.
She was a member of Armenian Church of Our Saviour in Worcester. She also attended Trinity Lutheran Church with her husband.
She leaves her son, Norman E. Hendrickson and his wife Constance of Exeter, RI and their two children and her grandchildren, Jonathan N Hendrickson wife Rebecca Hendrickson of Holden and Victoria A Hartnett and husband Eamonn Hartnett of North Kingstown, RI; four great-grandchildren: Jaedyn Hendrickson (13), Alysandra Hendrickson (11), Rory Hartnett (4) and Colin Hartnett (3). She leaves 12 nieces and nephews. Alice was the loving sister of two older brothers, Vahe Mekjian and Edward Mekjian who predeceased her.
A funeral Service for Alice will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, January 17, at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St. in Worcester. Interment will follow at Old Howard Cemetery in Sutton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St, Worcester, MA 01609, where her father presided and was influential in establishing the church on Salisbury Street.
