HOLDEN – Alice E. (Friars) Wilkie, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 20, 2018 under the loving care of her family and the staff at The Willows Health Center in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Alice was the daughter of Ira D. and Edith (Jones) Friars and lived over 60 years in Holden.
Her husband of 54 years, Norman D. Wilkie died in 2007. She leaves a son, Dale Wilkie and his wife, Nurjan of Jefferson; two grandchildren, Dr. Gianna Wilkie and her fiancé, Dr. Kevin O’Day, and Ross D. Wilkie and his wife Rebecca; two nieces, Sandy Belanger and Janice Dennison; two sisters in law; Marion Thumberland and Marion Friars; a very special friend of 70 years, Lois Winterbottom; and her dog “Mocha” who she treated as another grandchild. Besides her husband, Alice is predeceased by a brother, Milton Friars.
She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester and worked as a medical secretary for Hahnemann Anesthesia Associates. Alice previously worked for Paul Revere Life Insurance Co. and was a long time member of the former Burncoat Baptist Church. She and her husband loved to travel and visited many parts of the world.
Alice’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation to Audra Burton-Kean and the dedicated staff at The Health Center at the Willows in Worcester for their outstanding care and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Alice’s family from 10 to 11:30 am on Friday, August 24, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a funeral service honoring her life at 11:30 am.
