STERLING – Alfred P. Montagna, 83, of Sherwood Drive, died Wednesday, June 5, 2007 in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Helen E. (Carney) Montagna; three sons, Paul A. Montagna and his wife Andra of Sterling, John P. Montagna of Sterling, and Mark W. Montagna of Leominster; three grandchildren, Michael, Kaitlyn, and Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Agawam, the son of Alfred and Anna (Deloghia) Montagna and graduated from Agawam High School.
Mr. Montagna was a Navy Veteran of World War II serving in both the Asiatic Pacific and European African Theatre’s. He worked for many years as a District Manager for New England Telephone in Central Mass., retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church.
The funeral for Mr. Montagna will be held on Friday, June 8, from the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling, with a Mass at 11:00 am in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, June 7th, in the funeral home.
