AUBURN - Albert “Red” Bissonnette, Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at St. Francis Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Worcester. He was born On December 23, 1938 in Worcester to Albert J. Bissonnette Sr. and Anna (Shulman) Bissonnette.
He is survived by Phyllis Bissonnette, his wife of 60 years; his son, David Bissonnette and his wife Jennifer; his son Steven Bissonnette; his grandchildren, Michael Bissonnette, Sarah Bissonnette and Zoë Ferreira; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his sisters, Helen Moore-Mallalieu and Sister Marie Bissonnette of the order of the Sisters of Mercy and by his brother, Joseph Bissonnette.
Red was a 1956 graduate of North High School in Worcester. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961 where he worked as an airplane mechanic, achieving the rank of Airman Second Class. He married the love of his life, Phyllis K. Lucey on June 27, 1964 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Worcester.
Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for Harry F. Lucey Co. as an automotive mechanic. He was promoted to shop manager in 1975. In 1986, he became the co-owner and President of the company and its subsidiaries, Engine Realty Trust Inc. and New England Engine & Parts Warehouse Inc., which had four locations in three New England states. He ran this business with his brother-in-law, John Lucey, until his retirement in 2006. Red was a member of the Webster Square Merchants Association and was a Volunteer Finance Committee member at Our Lady of the Angel’s Elementary School.
His greatest passion was singing. He was a member of the Worcester Men of Song Barbershop Chorus for 57 years serving as chapter president in 1982. Red loved to cook and make people laugh but his favorite thing was to spend time with his family. After retiring, he remained active in his community, volunteering for meals-on-wheels and the Vernon Hill VFW Post 435. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 20th, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am the following day, Thursday, March 21st, at St. Joseph's Church, 194 Oxford St. N, Auburn.
