Alan L. Phillips
August 30, 1938 — December 25, 2020
HOLDEN – Alan L. Phillips, 82, passed away on December 25, 2020 from complications of Covid-19. He was born in Boston on August, 30, 1938 to Thomas and Grace L. Phillips and spent much of his childhood is Southbridge.
Alan had an outgoing personality that made him well suited for a long career as a salesman, before retiring in 2000. He resided with his family in Westfield for 22 years and then lived in Maine for many years before relocating to Holden ten years ago to be closer to his daughter.
He was an avid fan of many sports and loved musical theatre and movies, especially “The Wizard of Oz”. Alan enjoyed going out to eat and appreciated visiting his many granddogs. He had a creative side and for several years mailed hand-drawn Christmas cards to friends and family. Alan was also an active member of the Putnam Elks.
He will be remembered as a very generous man with a good heart.
Alan leaves behind two children; a son, Jeffrey Phillips and his partner, Steven Steward of Concord, NH; a daughter, Pamela Mahan and her husband, Tom of Holden; a grandson Andrew Mahan of Holden; a sister, Nancy LeRoy of Bedford, NH; his former wife, Ruth Phillips of Brunswick, ME; and several nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends.
Due to Covid-19, there will be a memorial service at Miles Funeral Home of Holden at a later date. Alan donated to many charities throughout his life, and his family suggests donations in his name be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128-6804 or to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st St. Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, Greater Worcester Funeral Care.
