WORCESTER - Alan Zachary Kirstein, age 71, died on Wednesday, March 1 after a short period of declining health. He was born in Norwich Connecticut, the only child of Obbie and Ida (Glick) Kirstein.
As a child Alan and his parents moved to Ware Massachusetts and eventually to Worcester.
Alan attended both Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State University and was an educator before starting his own successful paper recycling business.
A devoted “Beatles” fan, Alan was himself an accomplished musician playing the drums for local bands including “Albatross”. He was also an avid Major League Baseball fan and historian and had the opportunity to meet many players and coaches of different teams. A devoted Red Sox fan and all-around New England sports fan, Alan always had a special place in his heart for the Baltimore Orioles and their major league best looking uniform. Above all Alan was most proud of his Jewish heritage.
Alan is survived by his father Obbie Kirstein; his cousin, Sheldon Lapin and his wife, Sarah, their children Joshua and Rivka and grandchild Abby; and his special Lady, Maureen Peasgood of London, England.
Alan was also fortunate to have good friends who looked after him including Brian McNamara and Gerard Aubin. He was predeceased by his mom, Ida (Glick) Kirstein in 1984, and his devoted grandmother Bessie Glick.
A Graveside Funeral Service will take place at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Worcester Hebrew Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Auburn. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
