WORCESTER - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Al “Eppy” Epstein on May 7, 2023, at the age of 81. Eppy was born on August 2, 1941 in Worcester and was a beloved member of the community throughout his life.
A star athlete in high school, he excelled in baseball and basketball and continued playing throughout college. After graduation, Eppy became a physical education teacher as well as an umpire, known for his tremendous voice and fair calls on the court and field. He was always eager to teach kids how to improve their game.
Eppy was a kind and loving brother, brother-in-law and uncle, always there to offer a helping hand or a listening ear. He was devoted to his life-long partner, Sally Antos, who passed away before him.
Eppy’s funeral will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 11th at at Congregation Beth Israel, 15 Jamesbury Drive, Worcester, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and mourn his passing. Interment will follow at Worcester Hebrew Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Auburn. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your select youth charity to honor Eppy’s lifelong dedication to youth sports and his commitment to helping young people.
Eppy will be remembered for his kindness, his passion for sports, and his dedication to his family, friends and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
