WORCESTER – Eugene A. Fischer, 97, formerly of Holden, died peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2011 in Knollwood Nursing Center, Worcester after an illness.
His wife, Dorothy (Field) Chaplin Fischer died in 2004. He leaves a son, Bruce L. Fischer of Millbury; a daughter, Lynn B. Fischer and her husband Michael George of Jefferson; a sister, Betty Ruth Hause of California; two grandchildren, Robert E. Fischer and Karin L. Hunt and her husband, Richard all of Millbury; and two great grandchildren, Angelina and Jordan Hunt. His first wife, Gertrude H. (Holzboog) Fischer died in 1989. He is also predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia B. Fischer, and two sisters, Dorothy Kelley and Margaret Swanson. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Sadie (Smith) Fischer and lived 22 years in Holden before moving to the Briarwood Community in Worcester in 1990.
Mr. Fischer graduated from the University of Illinois and later received his Master's Degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. He later attended the Harvard Business School. He was an account executive for Norton Company in Worcester where he worked for 36 years retiring in 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Worcester and the Greendale Retired Men's Club.
A memorial service for Mr. Fischer will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th, in the First Baptist Church, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Briarwood Fund, Briarwood Retirement Community, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606, or the memorial fund at the First Baptist Church of Worcester, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA 01609. Memorial arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
