STERLING – Karen A. (Duffy) Casey, 44, passed away in her home on Friday, March 25, 2011 surrounded by her loving family on the Feast of the Annunciation of Mary, following an illness.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Dr. Neil P. Casey; her three children, Connor, Dylan and Shannon Casey all of Sterling; her mother, Judith A. (Pace) Duffy of Sterling; and many dear friends. She was born in Holden on August 12, 1966, daughter of the late Thomas F. Duffy, and lived most of her life in Sterling. She was a graduate of Holy Name High School in 1984, Assumption College in 1988 and later received her Master's Degree in Education from Anna Maria College in Paxton. She was also a graduate of the Diocese of Worcester Religious Education Ministry program and served as Director of Religious Education at St. Richard of Chichester Church in Sterling for many years. She was a highly valued staff member of St. Richard's and beloved religious educator of hundreds of children in Sterling. Previously she taught in Philadelphia, St. Bernard's Elementary School in Fitchburg and the Village Green Preschool in Sterling.
Karen enjoyed travelling, cooking and planning parties for her family and friends. Last year she proudly completed the 26-mile Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, compassion and devotion to her husband, children and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for calling hours at the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling on Sunday, March 27th from 2 to 6 p.m. and again at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, March 28th, before leaving in procession to St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Richard of Chichester Church, P.O.
