PAXTON – Adam P. Urbanovitch, 92, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – Memorial Campus. He was born in Paxton, the son of Anthony and Sophie (Bullock) Urbanovitch and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade in 1940.
His wife, Rose Marie (Rokosak) Urbanovitch, passed away in 1982. He leaves a son, John A. Urbanovitch of Paxton; a daughter, Ellen M. Urbanovitch of Green Bay, WI; three brothers, Alec and Louis Urbanovitch both of Paxton and Joseph Urbanovitch of New Port Richey, FL; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Peter and Frank Urbanovitch and three sisters, Adela O’Leary, Frances Johnson and Stasha Urbanovitch.
Adam was an Army Master Sergeant during World War II with the 747th Tank Battalion. He served in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Service Arrowhead. During the Normandy invasion, Adam drove the first tank that made it to Omaha Beach and at that time he made a promise to God that if he survived the war he would spend the rest of his life providing fresh vegetables to anyone in need.
Adam owned and operated with his family the Urbanovitch Brothers Farm in Paxton. He also worked for the Paxton Department of Public Works for over forty years before retiring. He was a member of St. Columba Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and planting his garden. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. The funeral for Adam will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mooreland Cemetery in Paxton.
