WORCESTER - Abraham A. Gammal, 92, formerly of Quincy, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017. He leaves a brother, Albert A. Gammal, Jr. and his wife, Margaret; a nephew, Joseph A. Gammal and his wife, Anna; 3 nieces, Candith A. Gammal, Sandra A. Caron and her husband, Michael, and Gayle A. MacKoul and her husband, Joseph; grandnephews and nieces, Joshua A. Caron and Nicole A. Caron, Fr. Alexander J. MacKoul and his wife, Amanda, and Christiana E. MacKoul, and Nicholas J. and Lucas Gammal. A sister, Mary A. (Gammal) Kalil, and a brother, Alfred A. Gammal predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, a son of the late Albert A. Gammal, Sr. and Jennie (Shaker) Seeds and lived in multiple cities throughout the country. He graduated from the former Commerce High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree with high distinction in Mechanical-Aeronautical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He furthered his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Graduate School where he received a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics. As an Aerodynamic Research Scientist, Abe held numerous positions with Bell Aircraft Corp, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (predecessor of NASA), the Goodyear Aircraft Corp, and Convair where he served as a Senior Aerodynamic Engineer. He concluded his career as an engineer for the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Boston. Known to his family and close friends as “Abie Baby" or "Uncle Picasso”, he was an accomplished painter. His love for the arts, music (especially opera), and poetry was foremost in his daily activities. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, loved reading and believed knowledge to be a lifeline to the future. The family would like to thank Abraham’s nurse and friend, Tochukwu, and the wonderful staff at Millbury Health Care Center for the loving and compassionate care they extended to Abraham and the entire Gammal Family. Family and friends are invited to visit with Abraham’s family on Thursday, January 5th from 10:00 -10:45 AM at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street, Worcester. A Funeral Service officiated by the Rev. Fr. Milad Selim will be held at 11:00 AM in the Cathedral. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. The family requests flowers be omitted and contributions made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 30 Anna Street, Worcester, MA 01604. Arrangements are under the direction of Philip G.
