HOLDEN – Gertrude A. (Belisle) Mapplebeck, 94, of Reservoir Street, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 in UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester with her daughter, Susan by her side.
Her husband of 56 years, Cyril H. Mapplebeck, died in 1994. She was born in Holyoke on December 16, 1914, the daughter of Wilbrod and Arsilia (Lavoie) Belisle, and lived many years in Worcester before moving to Holden in 1996. She leaves four daughters, Carolyn E. Semon of Rutland, Susan G. Bacon of Spring Hill, FL, Ruth E. Kos of North Grafton and Constance A. Conners of Haverhill; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Her son, Donald H. Mapplebeck and her sister, Loretta M. Larned predeceased her.
Mrs. Mapplebeck worked for the Worcester District Medical Bureau for many years, retiring in 1974. She was the Director of the Worcester County Bee Keepers Association until the age of 85; and a 53-year member of the Rachel Chapter No. 61 Order of the Eastern Star in North Grafton. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and spending time with her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 16th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elder Services of Worcester Area Inc., 411 Chandler Street, Worcester, MA 01602.
