WEST BOYLSTON - Antoinette “Toni” (Cattel) Andriski, RN, age 96, died on Friday, May 18, 2007 in the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.
Born in Revine, Italy, she came to the United States with her family at age 5. She was a graduate of Fitchburg High School and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in many capacities until her retirement at age 67. She started her career as a private duty nurse in New York City, and was the Visiting Nurse in Sterling. She and her late husband, Stanley E. Andriski, purchased the Oakdale Nursing Home in 1953 and later built a more modern facility in 1970. She worked at the home as Administrator until retirement and continued to volunteer there after it was sold in 1985. Toni was an active member of both her community and church. She was past president of West Boylston Council on Aging, the Woman’s Club of West Boylston, and the Parish Council and Woman’s Club of Our Lady of Good Council Church. She also was a member of the West Boylston Housing Authority. In 1976, she founded the Cattel-Andriski foundation in memory of her late husband and her father to award scholarships to local students. Every year since then several scholarships have been given out to students interested in nursing and related professions. In 1985 she was honored at an evening of Tribute at Mechanics Hall where numerous citations and accolades were bestowed upon her by local and state official for service to the community. In 2002 she was honored by the Diocese of Worcester for her service to the church and diocese.
Toni loved to travel and had a great circle of traveling family and friends. She enjoyed bringing her grandchildren to Disney World and also going back to Italy to see where she was born. In retirement she also enjoyed reading and crocheted afghans for many a new baby.
Toni is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela and James Tauras of Tolland, CT, and her son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Susan Andriski of Petersham. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Julia Donaldson, Jennifer Twining, James Tauras, Stefanie Andriski and Stanley Andriski, III. She will be missed by her great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Abigail, William, Jenna and Natalie. She also leaves her sister Elena Crotty of Leominster and her brother, Charles Cattel of West Hartford, CT. Toni was predeceased by her son, John Andriski, her sisters, Mary Polis, Ilda Antonioni, Doris Desjean, Pia Ballarin and her brother Joseph Cattel.
The funeral for Toni will held on Monday, May 21st, from the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Boylston. Burial will follow in Mt Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 20th, in the funeral home.
