WORCESTER – Skender Kerxhalli of Worcester, Massachusetts died peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital on January 20, 2022, at age 80 after a brief illness. He was born in his beloved Pogradec, Albania, on September 5, 1941, the son of Ligor and Krisavgji (Hambo) Kerxhalli.
He is survived by his wife, Marjana, of Worcester; son, Lorenc, daughter-in-law, Iris, of Northborough; his daughter, Ada, son-in-law, Adi Zaimi, of Northborough; sister, Engjellushe Kresto of Worcester; sister, Sofika Binishi, of Pogradec, Albania; his grandsons, Trevor, Erion, Eric; and granddaughter, Ana; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Liliana Martini.
Skender raised his family and lived in Pogradec for many years before moving to Worcester to be close to his children. He attended the Zootechnical School of Science in Korca and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tirana in Albania.
It was here, where he met the love of his life, Marjana, with whom he recently celebrated their golden anniversary. Skender had a long and successful working career as a veterinarian in Pogradec. He was loved and respected by his colleagues during his whole working career. He enjoyed the simple things in life, and spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
He had many hobbies and interests, was well read and an exceptional judge of character. Skender was known to be great company and enjoyed spending time with friends playing friendly poker games. He was also known for making great wine and excellent raki (grappa).
Family and friends are invited to meet with Skender’s family from 9:00 ‐ 10:55AM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11:00AM with the Rev. Fr. Mark Doku officiating. Burial will follow in Kizer Cemetery (adjacent to Howard Cemetery) in Northborough, MA
