Sheila B. Dubman

June 28, 1949 — April 13, 2017

PRINCETON - Sheila B. Dubman, 67, died on Thursday, April 13th at Sterling Village, nine months after being diagnosed with cancer. Before that setback, Sheila was a survivor. She lived with MS for about 15 years and had heart valve replacement surgery about 2 years ago.   The daughter of Lillian (Rosen) and Samuel Dubman, Sheila was born in New York City and grew up in Newark, New Jersey. Sheila studied art history as well as applied and fine arts, and earned a master’s degree in Fine Arts from New York University. She was particularly known for her superbly intricate pencil portraits. She taught drawing to graduate-level architecture students. In the 1980s, she embarked upon a new career in the emerging personal computer industry. Sheila served as President of SoftText, a publisher of computer books and software, was president and founder of Uptown Software (and a “Face to Watch” in Boston Magazine) and then Cambridge Development Laboratory, a distributor of educational software in Waltham, MA. Sheila and her second husband, Phil Mighdoll, lived in Waban, Melbourne, Florida, and Sudbury before moving to Princeton in 2004.  Sheila was active in the community, serving on the Town’s Advisory Board and the Princeton Historical Commission. In 2009, she co-authored Princeton – a History of its Villages. Sheila was unforgettable, irreplaceable and one of a kind. She was funny, wise and whip-smart, and her kindness knew no bounds. She reveled in her grandchildren (and several godchildren), rejoiced in the most obscure historical detail and prided herself in completing the New York Times crossword puzzle until just a few days before her death. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Phil Mighdoll; her son, Andrew Bujalski and his wife, Karen Olsson of Austin, TX; her stepson, Lee Mighdoll and his wife, Jackie of Palo Alto, CA; her stepdaughter, Lauren Sabato and her husband, Nicholas of Santa Fe, NM; her sister, Abby Hansen and her husband, Thomas of Wellesley; and her beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Irene, Milo, Emmett, and Natalia. She will be missed by many. The Miles-Sterling Funeral Home and Tribute Center is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton Community Trust Fund (Attn: Town Administrator, Princeton, MA).
