Richard F. Lovely

February 4, 1933 — May 7, 2012

HOLDEN – Richard F. Lovely, 79, of Jefferson passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012, at UMass Memorial Hospital-University Campus, Worcester. Born in Worcester, he was the son of George and Elizabeth (Brown) Lovely, and lived 58 years in Jefferson.



He was a graduate of Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College and attended Clark University and the College of the Holy Cross. He also served in the Army National Guard. He started his working career at The David Clark Co. in Worcester as a Research Engineer and continued at Matthews Manufacturing Co. and Raytheon. He was plant manager at Harrington and Richardson in Gardner and later Independent Lock Inc. in Fitchburg. In 1975, along with his wife Barbara and two sons, opened Busy Bee Nursery in Jefferson, a business which he enjoyed running with his entire family.



In 1954, Richard and Barbara built their home in Jefferson where they raised their three children. He loved gardening and ball room dancing. He also held a private pilot license and enjoyed flying. He was a long time active member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson and taught CCD classes.



He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 58 years, Barbara M. (Barry) Lovely; his children, Sharon F. Hart Taubert and her husband Mark Taubert, Michael R. Lovely and his wife Joan, and Richard L. Lovely and his wife Denise all of Jefferson; a brother, George Lovely and his wife Evelyn of Auburn; a sister, Jean Jones and her husband Donald of Monson; 12 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jonathan, Jessica and Timothy Hart, Eric and Michelle Taubert, Richard, Ronald and Robert Pelletier, Kristina Lovely, Michael and Michelle Pellerin; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.



Relatives and friends are invited to gather for calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, and again at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, May 11, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1326 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to St. Mary’s Church, P.O. Box 2200, Jefferson, MA 01522, or to a charity of your choice.
