WEST BOYLSTON – Maureen (McDermott) Sorge, 47, of Fairbanks Street, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 after a sudden illness.
She leaves her husband of 24 years, Gerald "Jerry" Sorge, Jr.; three children, Jarrett, Kevin and Kelly all at home; her mother, Gertrude H. (Hanouille) McDermott of Hampstead, NH; a brother, Michael McDermott of Plaistow, NH; three sisters, Karen Mayo of Contoocook, NH, Roberta Gouveia of Bedford, NH and Carolyn Halde of Pelham, NH; and several nephews and nieces. She was born in Methuen, daughter of the late Thomas R. McDermott, and lived in Salem, New Hampshire before moving to West Boylston 19 years ago.
Maureen graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Registered Nursing. After working three years as a pediatric nurse at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH, Maureen and Jerry relocated to Massachusetts where for the last 22 years she served as evening pediatric charge nurse for Fallon Clinic and Outpatient Nurse Care Specialist for the Fallon Community Plan. She was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church where she was a holiday choir member.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 13th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. The funeral for Maureen will be held on Monday, July 14th, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Church Street, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Maureen's memory to the Worcester State College/Maureen Sorge Academic Achievement Fund, Office of Institutional Advancement, 486 Chandler Street, Worcester, MA 01602.
