Mary T. Ward (nee Paul), age 73, passed away peacefully at her home at The Willows of Worcester on July 12, 2024. She was pre-deceased in August 2023 by her husband of 29 years, Peter Ward.

Mary was born in Worcester the daughter of William C. and Gertrude M. (Foss) Paul. She grew up in Shrewsbury, and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1969 and from Framingham State College in 1974 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She served on active and reserve duty in the U. S. Coast Guard from 1975 - 1987 and left the service with the rank Lieutenant Commander.

After her service with the Coast Guard, at various times in her career, Mary was employed by: Gulf Trading and Transportation Company in Bala Cynwyd, PA and Houston, TX; the Lake Carriers Association in Cleveland, OH; and, the U. S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration in Boston, MA. She retired initially in 2008, but was recalled to serve as a Grant Manager for the implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and retired finally from USDOL ETA in 2010.

Mary was a long-time resident of Shrewsbury, moving to The Willows in Worcester in 2014, and a long-term member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester.

Mary is survived by her sister, Karen von Eckartsberg and her husband Christian of Munich, Germany, by her good friends Holly O'Brien and Karen Leggett of Ashland, MA and the Rev. Nancy Elder-Wilfrid of Jaffrey, NH. She is also survived by her three step-children: Jan of Dorset, UK; Valerie and her husband Tony Webley of Johannesburg, South Africa; and David and his wife Shelley of Durban, South Africa, as well as her two grand-daughters and their spouses; Michelle and Nathan Rockhill and Hannah and Evan Hobson, and three great grand-children, Isla and Rae Rockhill and Owen Hobson all of whom reside in South Africa.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the All Saints Episcopal Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
