HOLDEN – Marie L. (Lucey) Newcomb, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
Born in Worcester, Marie was the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Ethel M. (Henry) Lucey. She went to Upsala Elementary School and Worcester Junior High with her close friend Betty Wallace. She graduated from Commerce High School and then attended Salter Secretarial School (now Salter College). Upon graduation she went to work for the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company where she worked over 35 years in several capacities to include as an actuary.
In 1957, she met the love of her life, Gordon S. Newcomb of Worcester; they were married in 1960, and later moved to Holden in 1962 where they would reside for the rest of their lives.
Marie and Gordon traveled all over the country but their favorite vacation spots were the seacoast of Maine and the mountain ranges of Vermont and New Hampshire. She enjoyed snowshoeing with her husband, bowling in her work league, and cooking delicious meals at home for her relatives and friends. She looked forward to those warm summer afternoons playing yard games like bocce ball and croquet, and tending to her gardens and admiring the local wildlife (except when they ate her flowers and vegetables).
She liked to give back to her community, volunteering for many years delivering meals through the Holden Senior Center. She also gave generously to numerous charities and most prominent among these was the Be Like Brit Foundation, which she supported since its inception.
Besides her parents, Marie is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Gordon S. Newcomb; two brothers, Walter H. Lucey, James R. Lucey, Sr.; and her sister, Dorothy M. Dubois.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret Ann Dudevoir of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 9:00 am to 10:15 am on Monday, April 4th, 2022 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the same day at 11:00 am at St. George Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester, with burial to follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her favorite charity the Be Like Brit Foundation (
