Jonathan Alejandro "Jonny" Acosta

October 24, 1984 — January 23, 2022

WORCESTER - Jonathan Alejandro “Jonny” Acosta, 37, passed away unexpectedly on January 23, 2022. He leaves behind a large group of family- and friends that were like family-and who are understandably devastated by the large void his loss has created in our lives.

The first child of Carlos and Marcia Rice Acosta, Jonny was born on October 24th, 1984 into a large and close-knit family that couldn’t have been happier to have him as a member. His father’s cherished “Super Boy”, Jonny grew up hanging out his cousin-siblings, playing sports with his close friends (Go Holy Name) (Maria, Mabel, Linda, Jimmy & his B.I.B.O crew) and fighting/laughing with his sister Kat, with whom he shared an incredible bond.

As a true resident of Worcester, Jonny of course met his future wife, Courtney on Shrewsbury St. while she tended bar at the Red Lantern. After an extended courtship and many years of making fun of him for cold feet, Jonny finally popped the question and made an honest woman of the former bartender at the Red Lantern. A little more than a year later, their daughter Grace joined their first two “fur children” Max and Koda Bear, which started the next and best chapter of his life.

Although we all made fun of him for dragging his feet to the altar, Jonny was a family man in the truest sense of the word, especially after his children were born. Daughter Grace was followed by his son/clone Theodore “Teddy” Acosta in 2017, and anyone who knew Jonny knew that his children and by extension, his family, were the true focus of his life, spending the majority of his time looking after them in addition to his work at Creative Event Services. It is when we think of his children Grace and Teddy and his devotion to them and his wife Courtney that we truly feel the full of extent of his loss.

It is hard to encompass all that Jonny was to the people who loved him. He was a lover of the Patriots, a hater of water slides & all of amusement park rides (but obsessed with cleaning his pool), scared of farm animals and could cut up the floor to the hits of the ‘90s with his wife. He leaves behind his parents, Carlos and Marcia Acosta, grandmother Elina Acosta, grandmother Marlene and Step-Grandfather Edward Crawford, a sister Katherine “Kat” Acosta and her partner Jay Madani, as well as his wife, Courtney (Hanrahan) Acosta and children Grace and Teddy. He was predeceased by grandfather Juan “Viejo” Acosta and uncle Wilson “Tio” Cristiani who his family hopes he is having a Coors Lite with in Heaven. He also will be deeply mourned by a host of very close cousins and friends who were more like siblings, and his in-laws in NH who loved him deeply and considered him part of the family. All of us will do our best to keep his memory alive for the moments he should have been here to experience.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jonny’s family from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 30th at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 31st at the funeral home.
