STERLING/WEST BOYLSTON – Jacalyn M. (Savage) Pruneau, 71, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving husband by her side on Sunday, November 26, 2017 after an illness. She was born in Batavia, New York on October 8, 1946 the daughter of the late John G. Savage, II and Vera M. (Edgerton) Savage who presently lives in Safety Harbor, Florida.Jackie graduated from Tahanto Regional High School in Boylston where she met and fell in love with a young man from West Boylston by the name of Val Pruneau. They married on October 3, 1964 at St. Patrick’s Church in Largo, Florida, and, shortly thereafter, moved to West Boylston where they raised their children and lived the following 48 years. Jackie went back to school and received an associate’s degree from Quisigamond College and as bachelor’s degree from Worcester State College. Although her background was in education, Jackie decided to pursue a career in banking and went to work at Worcester County National Bank and Shawmut Bank. Looking for a career change, Jackie accepted a new position as a librarian at Beaman Memorial Public Library in West Boylston where she worked over 13 years retiring as assistant director and librarian in 2011. She enjoyed working at the library where she made many new friends and sensed a heartfelt connection to her community. After her retirement, she continued to be involved as a librarian by volunteering her time at both the Beaman Memorial Public Library and her grandchildren’s school.Jackie was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church in Sterling, the Sterling Garden Club and Friends of the Beaman Library. She served on the West Boylston Finance Committee and as a Trustee at the Beaman Memorial Public Library. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with Val, which included numerous cruises and points of interest throughout the United States. Most memorably were trips to Alaska, Albuquerque, New Mexico and vacations spent in Aruba. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time quilting and sewing particularly with her Monday evenings group. Jackie will be remembered and missed by her husband of 53 years, Valmore “Val” H. Pruneau; her son, Mark F. Pruneau and his wife, Cathy (Roseberry) Pruneau of Sterling; her daughter, Michelle M. Pruneau and her companion, Kevin Werme of Rutland; her mother, Vera Savage; two brothers, John Savage, III of Rochester, NY and Jeffrey Savage of Safety Harbor, FL; a sister, Bonnie Savage and her husband, Peter Hagan of Fulton, New York; five grandchildren, Victoria, Caroline, Grace, Elizabeth and Jacob; nephews and nieces. Jackie is predeceased by John G. Savage, II.Jackie’s life will be honored and remembered at Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, December 1, in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling. Interment at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in West Boylston will follow.
