RUTLAND - -Gilbert F. Dillon, Jr., 65, formerly of Acton, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, December 1, 2014. Gil was born in Lynn, a son of the late Theresa (Pashby) and Gilbert F. Dillon, Sr. and was raised in Arlington, where he graduated from Arlington High School in 1966. He went to Boston College and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1970.
While at BC, Gil and the former Joanne Lowry met and fell in love. They soon married and began raising their family. Gil and Joanne settled in Acton, where they lived for over 30 years prior to moving to Rutland, where all of his family has relocated. A devoted loving husband, father and grandfather, in 2006 Gil orchestrated what was to be known as the “family compound” where he could be surrounded by his family at anytime, including those special “donut Fridays” with Pop. He was involved in many of his children’s activities, from coaching the different sports they were participating in, to being the loudest one cheering for them in the stands while watching them play, all the way through college. He had served as president of the Assabet Valley Youth Soccer League. The semi-annual family trips to Disney World provided so many great memories for everyone. He also was the one that made sure no one ever went hungry. He was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rutland.
Gil worked for several years for the former Digital Equipment Corporation, and then in 1995 he began Heat Technology Inc., a thermal engineering company located in Sterling. He was still actively working there at the time of his death.
He leaves his beloved wife of 44 years, whom he so lovingly cared for; his four children, Gilbert “Rusty” Dillon, III and his wife, Amelia, Kathryn “Kate” Dillon Brush, John “Jay” Dillon and his wife, Jaime and Megan Dillon Greevy and her husband, Famy, all of Rutland; his brother, William Dillon of Holliston; his two sisters, Jane Widun of Southwick and Susan Doherty of Arlington. He was the beloved Pop to Carina Elizabeth, Diana Rose, Devan Elizabeth, Ryan Joanne, Kalliyan Megan, Conor Samuel, Sheahan Rose, Kiera Josophyne, Luke Thomas, Maeve Kathleen, Bryn Alison, Famy Mam, Tierney Ann, all of Rutland and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Dillon.
