WORCESTER - Elbis (Tecimler) Eknayan, a cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at UMass Memorial - Lake Avenue Campus in Worcester on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the age of 89. Born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, Elbis was the daughter of Serope and Flora Tecimler, and she spent the last 45 years of her life in Worcester. Her beloved husband of 35 years, Hacik Eknayan, preceded her in death.
Elbis will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her son, Herman Eknaian, and his wife, Sonja Perpignan-Eknaian of Worcester; two grandchildren, Melissa and Christopher; a great-grandson, Carter; and several nephews and nieces including, Ani, Dilkran, Takuk, Kegus, Zephor, and Saro. In addition to her parents, Elbis is predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
A skilled seamstress both in Turkey and Worcester, Elbis dedicated many years to her craft. Her legacy is one of love and care, and she leaves behind a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know her. She loved to entertain and was known for her hospitality.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and share condolences with Elbis' family from 3 to 5 pm on Friday, January 12, at Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street in Worcester followed by a memorial service at 5:00 pm. Burial will be held privately at Hope Cemetery.
