HOLDEN - Earl G. Kent, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Born on May 19, 1930, in Beverly, MA, Earl was the son of Earl G Kent Sr. and Vera Hazel Kent and lived the last 50 years in Holden. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary A. Kent.
He leaves behind his three children: Michael M. Kent of Holden, Ann E. Kent-Gasiorowski and her husband Kevin Gasiorowski of Wenham, MA, Mark S. Kent and his wife Tara A. Kent of Holden, his seven grandchildren: Gabrielle, Mark, Nicholas, and Penelope of Holden, Elizabeth and Kathryn of Wenham, MA and Emily Elizabeth of Barre. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Kent DiLiddo and her husband Vincent DiLiddo of Boylston, sister Linda Ford of Worcester, and brother Richard Kent and his wife Jodi of Ware. Besides his wife and his parents, Earl was predeceased by his stepmother Blanche Decoteau Kent and his sister Virginia Donovan Kent.
Earl graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College. He honorably served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Stationed in Berlin, Germany, Earl graduated from the non-commissioned officer training school in Berlin and where he was promoted to platoon sergeant. He had a long-time career with Sears, Roebuck and Co., retiring in 1992.
He was an avid tennis player for many years and was a lifetime golfer. He loved to travel with his wife Mary to the south of France, Italy and Ireland. He especially enjoyed spending his time with his grandchildren and was an enthusiastic New England sports fan. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
A funeral Mass for Earl will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, May 17, at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson, Earl will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Mary at Grove Cemetery in Holden. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
