Denise A Hewson

STERLING - Denise A. (Drechsel) Hewson, 72, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus. Born in Torrance, CA and raised in Framingham, she was a daughter of the late, Norman and Katherine (Rochford) Dreschel.

Dee was a graduate of Framingham High School. She went on to further her education at University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Framingham State College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. Dee’s career in the software programming industry spanned more than thirty years, and included a teaching position at WPI.

Dee was interested in local agriculture and was a member of the Sterling Fair Committee for over twenty years. She was a member of the Sterling Senior Center where she had many friends and spent time with her work colleagues, aptly dubbed the “Ladies of Technology." In her spare time, Dee was an avid reader and she enjoyed gardening, Sudoku, puzzles of all kinds and watching her “stories” on television. She loved to travel, especially with her sister, cousins and friends and has traveled all across the country.

She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her son, Jeffrey Hewson and his wife, Gislaine of Sterling; her daughter, Jaime Hewson and her partner, Ken Matheson of Lyman, ME; her sister, Pamela McGarry and her husband, Gerald of Marlborough; three grandchildren, Peter, Nicholas and Sophia Hewson; and her niece, Jennifer Marks and her husband, Chris of Westwood. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles R. Hewson Jr in 2006 and her daughter, Katie Hewson in 2007.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family from 12 noon to 3 pm on Friday, October 11 in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Following the visitation, Dee's family invites relatives and friends to the family home from 4 pm to 8 pm for a Celebration of Life in her honor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Katie Hewson Memorial Fund, 176 General Hobbs Road, Jefferson, MA 01522.
