WESTBOROUGH/NORTHBOROUGH - Byung Kyu Park died peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2006 in Knollwood Nursing Home, Worcester, after a long illness.
Mr. Park was born June 17, 1931 in Busan, South Korea to Song Su Park and Okum Soh. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cha Yun (Wang) Park; three daughters, Kwi Nam Park and her husband Robert Deakin and Young Nam Lee and her husband Cheh Wook Lee all of Westborough, and Sang Nam Bae and her husband Byung Pyo Bae of Ayer; two sons, Ik Sun Park and his wife Suk Hee Park of Worcester and Kyung Sun Park and his wife Moon Hee Park of Northborough; and 10 grandchildren whom two have graduated from the University of Hartford Hartt School and Northeastern University and four others are currently enrolled at Northeastern University, Johnson and Wales College, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Georgia Technical Institute. He is also survived by two brothers, Hang Kyu Park and Song Pu Park in Busan of South Korea. Mr. Park was preceded in death by another brother, Myung Kyu Park, in Korea. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a military policeman. He was educated in Busan, Korea and Nagasaki, Japan where he learned Japanese and Chinese.
Mr. Park worked for a large brewery in Korea where he learned to be a brew master and was the Chief Boiler Engineer. He retired from the brewery in 1983 shortly before he immigrated to the United States. He later worked at Electronic Designs, Inc. in Hopkinton. He lived in Worcester, Northborough, Shrewsbury and also for many years in Westborough. He frequently helped his grandchildren with many education activities including attending classes at the Korean School of New England. He grew up on the ocean and enjoyed sailing and all types of fishing.
A wake will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. with a service between 7 and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Following the service friends and relatives are invited to join the family to share a Korean meal at Seoul Leechi Restaurant, 185 Main Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701; or to the American Lung Association, 393 Maple Street, Springfield MA 01105.
