HOLDEN – Bradley B. Gilman, of Pine Tree Road, died July 20, 2004, a victim of cancer.
He leaves a sister, Harriet Gilman Kruszyna of Randolph, New Hampshire; a stepmother, Mrs. Janice Gilman of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; and several cousins. He was born in Washington, D.C. on November 1, 1930, the son of Bradley B. and Jean (Tillinghast) Gilman, was later raised in Worcester and lived 36 years in Holden.
He attended the Worcester Public Schools, the Bancroft School, and the Foreman School in Connecticut. After matriculating at Paul Smith’s College in upstate New York, he subsequently earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of Massachusetts. An avid student of the natural world, he was employed for many years at the Ecotarium in Worcester (formerly the New England Science Center). He later worked briefly for the Holden Police Department before taking an early retirement.
For most of his life, Bradley was involved in youth hockey, first in Worcester and later in Holden. He served as a goal judge and taught youngsters how to skate and stickhandle.
Friends are welcomed to attend a graveside service at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 21, in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ecotarium , 222 Harrington Way, Worcester, MA 01604; or to a local youth hockey organization. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
