PAXTON – Barbara J. (Bertrand) Bassett Gaudet, 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus after an illness. She was born in Whitinsville, the daughter of Lawrence A. and Jean A. (Poirier) Bertrand and graduated from Classical High School and the Salter Secretary School.
Barbara leaves her loving husband of 31 years, Andre J. Gaudet; her children, Michael K. Bassett of Worcester, Amy-Laing Bobkowski and her husband, Patrick of Holden, Andre Gaudet and his wife, Maryann of Gardner, David Gaudet and his wife, Theresa of Leominster, Julie St. Onge of Springfield, VA, Daniel Gaudet and his wife, Laura of Bolton and Dean Gaudet of Templeton; her brothers, Lawrence Bertrand of Wareham, William Bertrand of Harwich Port and Joseph Bertrand of Middleboro; her sister, Carol Sypko of Somerset; fourteen grandchildren, Benjamin Bassett, Devon Bassett, Kirk Bobkowski, Madeline Bobkowski, Shawn Gaudet, Jonathan Gaudet, Jennifer Cairo, Jay Gaudet, Neil Gaudet, Nicholas Cairo, Michael Gaudet, Madeline Gaudet, Nathan Gaudet and Bryce Gaudet; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband of 16 years, Kirk W. Bassett in 1975.
Barbara was a secretary for Lavigne Press in Worcester and St. Columba Church in Paxton. She was a member of St. Columba Church including the Women’s Guild and was a Girl Scout leader in Paxton for many years. Barbara was known for her cooking, her beautifully kept home, her phenomenal theme parties and she was an accomplished painter where she received awards for some of her work. Never staying idle, she always found time to volunteer and support special organizations that she held dear to her heart including, Why Me &Sherry’s House and the Be Like Brit Foundation. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, antiquing, traveling and walking along the beaches of Maine, but Barbara’s greatest joy in life was the time spent with her loving grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 24th in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to Why Me & Sherry’s House, 1152 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA 01602. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
