Biography
HOLDEN - Allen “Buddy” F. Perry, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Born in Worcester, Allen was the son of the late Walter E. and Janet E. (Powers) Perry and was a resident of Holden his entire life.
Allen was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School class of 1965 and received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Worcester State College in 1969, he also received his Masters Degree in Education in 1974. He was an educator in Holden for 35 years. Allen taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at Chaffin Elementary School, served as the assistant principal, acting principal and a special education coordinator. After the closing of Chaffin Elementary School, Allen taught at Mayo Elementary School until his retirement in 2004. Allen passionately enjoyed teaching and mentoring young students at the elementary school level.
Allen married his longtime sweetheart, Judy Ham of Holden, on July 19, 1969 at St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson. They would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary together next year. He always took an active role in his children’s activities. He coached youth baseball including Farm League, Holden Little League and Senior League. He coached his daughter’s youth soccer team and the Holden Girl’s Softball League.
Besides being a diehard New England sports fan, Allen enjoyed playing golf with his friends and family at Holden Hills Country Club and Bedrock Golf Club, and bowling with the teacher’s league at Colonial Lanes in Worcester. Other interests of Allen’s included building model cars, woodworking and spending time working in his backyard. After the tragic and untimely loss of their son Josh, Allen and Judy worked through their grief, embracing and centering their lives around their family with Josh's memory and love.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 49 years, Judith A. (Ham) Perry; his daughter, Cassandra Herlihy and husband, Christopher and their children Ainsley and Keegan of Rutland; daughter-in-law Mandy Perry and her children, Kylie, Peyton, Caden and Bryce of Charlton; a great grandson, Joshua; two brothers, Walter "Bunky" E. Perry, Jr. and his wife Camille of Paxton and Bradford L. Perry and his wife Diane of Rutland, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Allen was predeceased by his son, Joshua Allen.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Allen’s family from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, May 7, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service honoring his life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 8, at the funeral home.
