RUTLAND – Anna (Rywko) Medlinskas, 84, of Forest Hill Drive, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2010 in Shrewsbury Crossings Assisted Living, Shrewsbury.
Her husband of 37 years, Michael Medlinskas, died in 1982. She leaves two sons, Michael D. Medlinskas and George W. Medlinskas and his wife Beth, all of Shrewsbury; three daughters, Dr. Pauline A. Cormier and her husband Paul and Mary J. Michniewicz and her husband Richard, all of Sterling, and Ruth E. Medlinskas of Worcester; and five grandchildren, Jillian, Shane, Adam, Mark and John. She is predeceased by her sister, Maria.
Anna was born in Lvov, Poland, a daughter of Jacob and Rosalia (Bogacz) Rywko and has lived in Rutland since 1950. She was assistant dietician at Rutland Heights Hospital for 38 years, retiring in 1990, and was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association. Years ago she was a waitress at the former Holden House in Holden. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Senior Center of Rutland. Anna was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage and was fluent in Polish, Ukrainian, German, Russian as well as English. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid Red Sox fan.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Shrewsbury Crossing as well as AseraCare Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 7th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Anna will be held on Monday, March 8th, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Spring burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Rutland. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Worcester Lodge of Elks #243, 233 Mill Street, Worcester, MA 01602; or the Rutland 4th of July Committee, Gift Account, 250 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543.
