HOLDEN – Ruth M. (Stearns) Trotto, age 89, passed away peacefully at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Born in Auburn, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Doris (Fiske) Stearns.
Raised in Auburn, Ruth graduated from Auburn High School, class of 1953. She went to work early in her career at Anderson Corporation in Worcester. Soon after she met the love of her life, Ralph Trotto, Jr., and the two were married and settled in Worcester where they raised their family. Later in life, she went back to work as a sales associate for over 20 years at L.B. Wheaton, Inc. in Worcester.
Ruth was an avid baseball fan, watching as many Red Sox games as she could, and more recently, Woo Sox games. She also loved ‘everything’ Elvis, as well as enjoyed traveling to San Diego for many years to visit her siblings. Ruth and her husband Ralph loved dancing on Friday nights at the Tuttle Post and she also enjoyed her monthly luncheons with her many friends.
In addition, she was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Worcester where she taught CCD for many years and was also a volunteer librarian at Lincoln Street Elementary School. When her children were younger, she was a Cub Scout den mother as well.
Ruth enjoyed candlepin bowling throughout her life, a past time she did with her husband, Ralph. Family was her priority. She attended all of her sons' sporting events, as well as her grandchildren's soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball games, dance recitals, and various school events.
Ruth is survived by her 2 sons, Stephen Trotto and his wife, Ann of Bluffton, SC, Darren Trotto and his wife, Kerry of Holden; 4 grandchildren, Samantha, Craig, Carolina, and Claire; 5 great-grandchildren, Shyanne, Theo, Tassen, Sadie, and Aisling; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ralph F. Trotto, Jr., a brother, Robert Stearns, and a sister, Gloria Isselhard.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital for their loving kindness during Ruth’s stay.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ruth's family from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Thursday, December 19th, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. Burial will be private.
