Roland A Laprade

HOLDEN - Roland Arthur LaPrade, 93, of Holden, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 29, 1931, to Arthur and Sadie (Johnson) LaPrade. Roland was raised in Holden and attended local grade schools. He was a three-sport athlete who graduated from Holden High School in 1948. Following high school, Roland attended a technical college to learn appliance repair and was drafted into the Navy and served on ships along the Atlantic Ocean corridor from Haiti to Portugal.

On August 18, 1956, Roland married the love of his life, Dorothy L. Martunas. Together they built a beautiful life and raised two sons, Robert and Ronald LaPrade in houses in Leicester, Spencer and Holden.

Roland was gifted in using his hands and took great pride in being able to repair many household items, appliances and cars. He truly enjoyed trout fishing, pheasant and deer hunting, growing a lot of the family's food in their gardens and tending to his woodlot. Roland was always available to help out his sons in their many sporting activities and coached and umpired Little League and Babe Ruth baseball games in the Spencer Little League for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Sadie LaPrade.

Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy, and his sons, Robert LaPrade and his wife Sandy, and Ronald LaPrade and his wife Tatyana. He was a proud grandfather to Dr. Christopher LaPrade and his wife Jessica, and their sons, Easton and Owen; Dr. Matthew LaPrade and his wife, Dr. Samantha LaPrade, and their son, Bennet; Jeffrey LaPrade and his wife Defina Serrovalle, and their daughter, Mia; and Anna LaPrade.

He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

A combined memorial service will be held for Dorothy and Roland at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, on May 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
