WORCESTER – Priscilla (Davis) Keay passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27 at Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester. She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, David Keay; sons Jeffrey and wife Patricia, Darrell and wife Margaret, and Gary; grandsons Barclay, Brad, Scot, Brian, and Kevin; great grandchildren Miles, Natalie, and Crew; nieces Penny, Deborah, and Becky; and sister in-law Jane Lindell.
Priscilla was born at Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain, the daughter of Fred and Rowena (Anderson) Davis. She graduated from Brockton High School and received her bachelor degree from Simmons College. She married her teenage sweetheart David on June 29, 1947. They lived in the married dorms of Norwich Academy and then MIT before moving to Needham where they raised their family.
Priscilla was actively engaged in the community as a member of the High Rock School PTO, as a poll worker, and as a town census taker. She took lessons in ballet, figure skating and synchronized swimming, and worked at the downtown health food store. Summers were spent at a cottage on Sawyer’s Island Maine where voyages on the Caine, island picnics, trips to the beach, and expeditions to pick blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries were the order of the day. Priscilla and her mother made the best blueberry pies ever.
Priscilla was an avid hiker, and she and David were still hiking in the White Mountains well into their seventies. Hiking, camping, and canoeing with the family was a regular activity, and they passed on their love of the outdoors to their sons.
Priscilla and David bought a vacation home in Sunapee, New Hampshire in 1974, where they moved permanently after David retired in 1988. The Sunapee home became the family homestead where Christmas and Thanksgiving were always celebrated, and was an active beehive of activity with family and friends constantly coming and going. Priscilla was the consummate hostess making sure all were well fed and having a great time. She didn’t allow anyone to leave without playing at least one round of her favorite card game, Tripoli.
In later years Priscilla did a great deal of travel with David. Foreign travel included visits to almost all of western Europe and to Poland; a safari through Kenya and Tanzania, and an adventurous trip to the Galapagos and Ecuador. They also purchased a RoadTrek and traveled extensively through Canada and the United States, including Alaska.
Until recently, winters were spent in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where her son Darrell and his wife also rented a home for the winter. Constant visits by family and friends was also the rule there. Their final moves were to senior housing at the Woodlands in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and finally to Briarwood in Worcester.
Priscilla was kind and considerate, loved having family and friends around, and always let everyone know how much she appreciated them. She will be sorely missed.
