Peter V. Brennan

December 30, 1950 — July 20, 2023

HOLDEN - Peter V. Brennan, 72 , of Littleton, Colorado, and formerly of Jefferson, was a Brother, Father, Uncle, and Grandfather. He passed away on July 20, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. Peter was strong willed, stubborn, and witty to the end, but he also had an enormous heart, a great sense of humor, was strong in his faith, and full of love for his family.

Peter was born on December 30, 1950 to Vincent and Mary (Moreau) Brennan in Worcester, MA. He and his six sisters spent their formative years in Jefferson, MA. After Peter graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1968, he went on to study at the University of Massachusetts where he received his B.S. in Political Science, he later earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from Northeastern University.

Peter worked in banking for several years and completed his banking career at the FDIC before transitioning to municipal finance at the Wachusett Regional School District. He moved to Colorado in 2014, to be closer to his children and grandchildren, where he was employed by Boulder County until his retirement in 2020. Over the years Peter volunteered for and participated in several charitable activities to include, Walk to End Alzheimer's, Walk for a Cure, and many other faith based charities. He was a proud member the family team, Brennan Brigade, for the A.C.S. Relay for Life for many years, bringing his passion and dedication to this cause from Massachusetts to Colorado where he continued to participate in the Relay alongside his grandchildren.

Peter has two children from a prior marriage, Patrick Brennan and Elizabeth Santoro (Brennan), whom he raised in Westborough and Holden, MA. Patrick currently resides in Denver, CO with his wife Katie, and two children, Bridget and Jack Brennan. Elizabeth lives in Colorado Springs with her husband Anthony and their three children, Bella, Emma and Lyla.

He was a member of the Light of the World Roman Catholic Church in Littleton, CO, and maintained a close connection with St. Mary's Church in Jefferson, MA.

Peter enjoyed hiking, listening to good music, taking pictures of everything, watching his grandchildren's sports activities, and taking them to the movies, frequently driving to Massachusetts to visit with his family and friends, playing cribbage and engaging in banter with anyone he could. He was a lifelong student of history and loved to read books. He also loved vacations to Cape Cod with his sisters and extended families, or any place that had a good beach for walking and collecting seashells or rocks to bring home to his grandchildren. He not only cultivated plants in and outside of his homes with great joy, he had a gift for cultivating relationships, touching the lives of people of all ages along his life's journey.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, William F. McCarthy and James J. Reidy. He was the only boy of a family of seven and is survived by his six sisters, their spouses and many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, and cousins. They include his sisters Nicole M. McCarthy of Lexington, MA, Teresa M. Reidy of Holden, Rita Brennan Olson and her spouse Jerry K Olson of Holden, Jacqueline R. Brennan of North Brookfield, MA; Deborah A. Brennan and her spouse Andrew Rapp of Portland, CT; and Elizabeth Brennan and her spouse Thomas J. Dufault of Jefferson, MA. Peter also leaves behind a beloved grand dog, Mackay, with whom he shared many hikes and stick finding missions along his favorite Colorado trails in recent years.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 27 at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, cancer.org/involved/fundraise/relay-for-life, as it was an organization Peter felt strongly about.
