DIGHTON - Lily B. Hewitt, 100, formerly of Taunton and Worcester, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 7, 2019. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Newton B. and Lily (Burns) Hewitt.
Lily will be lovingly remembered by her nephew, Stephen L. Phillips of Smithfield, Rhode Island; her nieces, Lois Cherry and her husband, Dennis of South Carolina, Joyce Spetz and her husband, John of California, Susan Lacey of Rutland and Judi Boone and her husband, Ernest of Mobile, Alabama. She was predeceased by her sisters, Edith L. Underwood, Ruth A. Phillips and Merle Hewitt.
Lily was known for her loving and outgoing spirit. As a volunteer at Greenlawn Nursing Home, Taunton Nursing Home and Co-Op Group Home in North Dighton, she touched the hearts of many people. Lily especially enjoyed arts and crafts, reading stories and spending time with senior citizens in need. She had been recognized as an Honorary Citizen by the city of Taunton and was honored with a key to the city for her volunteer efforts. Lily will be missed by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service honoring and celebrating Lily's life at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd. (Rt. 12) Sterling. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, Webster Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cerebral Palsy of Eastern MA, 103 Johnson Street, Lynn, MA 01902.
