HOLDEN - Dorothy Jane Granger, 91, went to join her husband, Richard V. Granger of 63 years on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. She resided at Sterling Village where she was well known for her entertainment of the other residents. She was very skilled on the piano.

She leaves three daughters, Dorothy J. Granger and her husband Jim Geneva of Holden and their children, Linda J. Jumonville and her children of Dade City, FL, and Diane P. Perry and her husband Brad of Rutland and their children; four sons, Richard V. Granger Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Princeton and their children, James R. Granger and his wife Alenka of Tahoe City, CA and their children, Steven M. Granger of Holden and his children, and Timothy G. Granger and his wife Linda and their children of Tahoe City, CA; and a sister, Virginia M. Larson and her husband Bob of Ohio. A son, David P. Granger and 4 brothers predeceased her. Dorothy was born in Worcester the daughter of T. Grover and Kathryn (Shea) Greany and graduated from South High School.

After raising her family, she worked in the administration department of the former Holden District Hospital and the former Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson and a charter member of St. Mary's Guild. In addition, she was a member of Hillcrest Country Club in Leicester where she enjoyed golfing with her many women friends; the Frohsinn Club Bowling League and the Mary McMenemy Bowling League at Colony Homes where she enjoyed bowling with her friends. Dorothy was also a former member of the Worcester Emblem Club.

Dorothy lived a full and happy life raising her 8 children of whom she was very proud. She was fortunate to live to enjoy her 17 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was an avid golfer who, with her husband, Dick, founded the annual Granger Golf Tournament that was enjoyed by their friends and family for several decades. She enjoyed and shared her love of golf with all generations of family and friends. Music and singing were a very large part of their family life where Dorothy played the piano and Dick sang. They entertained at every family event with many songs, patriotic songs and always finished with their imitation of Edith and Archie's version of "Those were the days". Dick sang many songs to Dorothy, and one she especially enjoyed hearing was "I'll Always Be In Love With You". After Dick's passing, Dorothy's son, Steven, would frequently sing that song to her and she would join him and together they remembered Dick and the good family times at the piano. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends at the Sterling Village where she gave monthly concerts for many of the residents. She loved performing!
