HOLDEN, MA - Dr. Philip Guy Sanfacon, 67, of 10 Damon Road, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in Mass General Hospital in the presence of his loving family.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Donna (Hatheway) Sanfacon; two sons, Stephen Philip Sanfacon of North Grafton, MA and David Earl Sanfacon of Worcester, MA; a daughter, Julia Anne Marie Trujillo of Sudbury, MA; three granddaughters, Alexa and Sophia Trujillo of Sudbury, MA and Olivia Sanfacon of North Grafton, MA; two sisters, Dr. Pat Gagnon and Margot Bromfield, both of Florida; three brothers John Sanfacon of Vermont, Dr. Dennis Sanfacon of Philadelphia, PA, William Sanfacon of Texas, and Jerome Sanfacon of Boston. Two brothers predeceased him, Peter (Sonny) and Paul, and one sister, Anne Marie. He was born in Grand Isle, Maine, the son of Peter Charles and Lorette (Martin) Sanfacon and lived 25 years in Holden.
Dr. Sanfacon graduated from Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI, St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, and Dalhousie University Medical School, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He practiced Family Medicine in Van Buren, Maine for 8 years. In 1970 he moved to Burlington, VT where he was asked to start up the Family Practice Program at the University of Vermont, Burlington, VT. Additionally, he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Practice, and also served as Medical Director of the Villemare Health Care Center. In 1980, he and his family moved to Holden where he took a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Practice at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. In 1986 he started his own Private Family Practice in Worcester.
Dr. Sanfacon was an avid reader, classical music enthusiast and a talented piano player. He most enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, and lovely granddaughters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, May 1, from 4:00-7:00 a.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral Mass for Dr. Sanfacon will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Holden. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery, Holden.
